The beach at Cala Mariolu, the pearl of the seaside at Baunei in Sardinia’s beautiful Ogliastra district, was posted as a Corfu beach in what Sardinian authorities called ‘identity theft’.

Baunei Mayor Stefano Monni wrote a protest letter to the Greek website and has said he may hire a lawyer to “protect our image”.

“Dear managers of the Hellenic World profile, your 644,000 followers, the 67,000 people who liked your post, should know that the place portrayed is not the (beautiful, of course) Corfu, but Ispuligedenie-Cala Mariolu, in Baunei, Sardinia,” Monni wrote.

“We ask you to pay more attention, also to protect the many people who in good faith rely on incorrect information to visit, or dream of visiting, what they see.”

The message was also translated into English and as well sent to the Instagram profile of the Greek site.

The stunning snap was taken by photographer Gian Marco Leoni in 2019.
