Possession was roughly equal with Parma creating nine chances to Venezia’s 11.
The home side went ahead in the 21st minute when Valentin Mihaila was put through on goal by Hernani and sent the ball low into the far post.
Initially the goal was given as offside before VAR intervened to allow it.
Finland international Joel Pohjanpalo brought Venezia level just five minutes later when he dove feet first into a bending cross by Giorgia Altare.
The match’s winning goal would have to wait until the drama-inducing tenth minute of added time, as Drissa Camara’s incredible volley from outside the box was too much to handle for Venezia keeper Jesse Joronen.
Parma remain on top of the table, four points above second-placed Cremonese.
Venezia are fourth, seven points behind.
