Eleven residents at the facility have succumbed to the virus since the outbreak was detected on April 11, including five within 24 hours.

Fifty-four people have tested positive for the virus at the facility in Caddens, near Penrith, including residents and staff.

The outbreak has been linked to a staff member who worked at the facility while showing mild symptoms.

NSW Health authorities are trying to establish how an employee at the facility who wore PPE got infected with the virus.

The worker is one of two new cases reported at the centre overnight.

It comes after NSW announced a relaxation of social distancing restrictions on Tuesday.

Two adults and dependent children can now visit the homes of families and friends.

The four reasons NSW residents can leave their homes remain the same, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

“It is whether you are working or going to school, it is whether you need to buy something, whether it is for exercise or whether it is for care and medical needs,” she said.

Berejiklian this morning urged anyone with the “slightest sniffle” to be tested for coronavirus, as she announced 11 new cases in the state overnight.

More than 5400 people were tested in the last 24 hours, a number NSW authorities want raised to 8000.

NSW remains the worst-hit state in Australia with the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases topping 3000 today.

There have now been 41 deaths from the virus in NSW, and 88 in Australia.
