Jannik Sinner said Thursday that the pain of his 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 defeat to Spain's Carlos Alcarazin the US Open quarterfinals won’t soon leave him.
“I've had tough defeats but this is at the top of the list,” Sinner said after the epic match that lasted five hours and 15 minutes.
“I think it will hurt for quite a while.”
Fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini's run at the US Open also ended in the quarterfinals when the 26-year-old Roman lost 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) to Norway's Casper Ruud on Tuesday.
