Last Saturday, October 7, the Ramacca Social Club celebrated its 54th anniversary with a classy ‘Gala Night Dinner Dance’, a tribute to the decades of friendship that the club has offered its members and the wider Melbourne community.
The event brought together members and friends of the club for an elegant evening of good food and fun.
The menu, lovingly prepared by club volunteers, offered delicacy after delicacy with five courses that delighted the palates of those in attendance.
But the real magic touch came with the performance of magician Damien Boog, who enchanted the guests with his tricks. Music also played a key role in fuelling the energy of the evening, with a live performance by ‘No Limits’, who kept the dance floor buzzing with a variety of tunes that created the perfect atmosphere for dancing and fun.
Given the occasion, it was important to take a look back at the club’s history. The Ramacca Social Club was founded in 1969, but its official headquarters were not opened until 1984.
Before having its own headquarters, members used to meet in the municipal halls, each bringing their own lunch. A momentous change came with the opening of their current venue in Tullamarine, which enabled the club to host many unforgettable events.
Sam Scordo, the club’s president, reflected on the transformation of the Ramacca Social Club over the years as follows.
“Initially, our club was 100 per cent [people from] Ramacca,” Scordo explained.
“But then, with the disappearance of the first generations of Ramacca people who contributed to the birth and growth of the Club, this began to fade.
“Today I call my Club ‘multicultural’, and no longer just ‘ramacchese’. In fact, many people from all corners of the world attend our parties and events, such as Maltese, Greeks, Egyptians and, of course, Italians.”
It was the diversity and openness of this membership that helped make the 54th anniversary celebration a truly inclusive and special event. The community came together to honour the past, present and future of the Ramacca Social Club, proving that friendship can break down any barrier.
“I am proud of everything we have done and the work we will continue to do,” said Scordo with pride.
“I have been part of the committee for many years now, and I have seen it grow over time, overcome many challenges due to the passing of the first founders.
“But we have always succeeded, and we have always tried to offer our members events that allow them to have fun, relax and socialise. Today I can say that our work is highly respected and appreciated by all Club members.”
