Each year, the Italian town of Como celebrates the festive season with its famous Città dei Balocchi, or Toys’ Town.

Now in its 26th edition, this is the most important Christmas event in the lakeside community.

For over a month, from November 23, 2019, to January 6, 2020, Como is hosting a wealth of Christmas events, from shows to workshops and much more, for all the family.

Adults can be inspired by gift ideas at the Christmas market, which features over 30 wooden stalls, and enjoy a spread of traditional festive food made by producers from all over the country.

Kids can go ice skating in Piazza Cavour and can also visit Santa Claus’ Post Office to send their cards and presents.

The enchanting atmosphere is enhanced by the Como Magic Light Festival, which sees a range of Christmas images illuminating the facades of Como’s buildings.

Be sure to visit on Christmas Eve, when Santa makes a personal appearance in Piazza Duomo, handing out gifts to children.

Another festival highlight is on January 6, when the Befana – a mythical old lady – visits to give out gifts on Epiphany Eve.

Thanks to the fire department of Como, the Befana arrives in Piazza Duomo descending from a rooftop.

This marks the official end of Toys’ Town for another year.
