Meanwhile, the Puglia city of Taranto, blighted by the polluting ex-ILVA steelworks, was last in the rankings.
The survey said Italians “generally live very well in their cities, with peaks of satisfaction polarised between North and South”.
It said that for some services such as health and transport, Italian citizens are not all that happy, especially in the South.
The Quality of life in European cities survey was conducted by the European Commission with the contribution of Istat.
