Simona and Serena Caputi recently dressed as Romeo and Juliet in order to promote the Valentine’s Day event in Leichhardt. The initiative was well received, as it helps to raise awareness within the community about everything Leichhardt has to offer.
The two sisters are part of La Bottega d’Arte Teatrale, and have appeared in theatre performances such as La Giara last year and in 2015 with Once Upon a Master.
The pair would like to see more events in the future.
“More festivals, such as the Ferragosto festival and the Festa Italiana,” they said, suggesting the organisation of more activities to involve different age groups in the neighbourhood, and the Forum in particular.
“It would be nice if a choice of exercise classes were oddered, for example,” they continued.
“[Also,] other social events like themed cultural evenings.”
The two sisters explained that actively participating in community life, even though they do not live in Leichhardt, is still a great way to stay in touch with their roots.
Serena, even though she is not currently involved with the theatre group, still wanted to participate and help the local small businesses in Leichhardt.
For her, it’s essential to demonstrate, through these initiatives, how important community involvement is in supporting local businesses and promoting the identity and culture of the neighbourhood.
Simona and Serena, with their selfless spirit and desire to help others, are a positive example of how the younger generation can contribute to making their community a better place.
