Valentino will also donate new palm trees to be planted on the Spanish Steps, replacing those that have been destroyed by palm weevils.

Valentino’s chief executive officer, Jacopo Venturini, said that the company was excited to “give back” to the city of Rome.

The fashion house will stage their upcoming autumn-winter 2022-23 collection at the Spanish Steps in Rome on July 8.

A 600-metre catwalk will be set up between Piazza di Spagna, Trinità dei Monti, Piazza Mignanelli and Via Gregoriana.

“This has been my dream for as long as I can remember,” Pierpaolo Piccioli, Valentino’s creative director, said.

“Rome is the stage for our daily activities; it’s not only a tourist destination.

“We’re proudly aware of the identity of this beautiful city, where contrasts exist everywhere.”

The city of Rome will honour the fashion house’s contribution by decorating streets and bridges in the city’s centre with banners and posters.

Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri emphasised the city’s long history of fashion innovation.

“Rome is on track to becoming one of the fashion capitals of the world again, a benchmark that is part of the city’s DNA,” he said.

“We want to invest in this sector and relaunch it.

“With this upcoming event, we aim to make Rome a year-round fashion capital.”

This event will mark the beginning of a month of initiatives that will involve the whole city, including renowned couture week, AltaRoma.

After the event, from July 10 to 12, Valentino will open its historic archives at Palazzo Mignanelli to the public, offering guided tours of its vintage designs.
