Premier Daniel Andrews said there are 1158 total confirmed coronavirus cases in the state, including 33 new cases and 93 confirmed community transmissions.

“There are 34 people in hospital not in ICU and a further 13 that are in intensive care,” Andrews added.

“So, there is some stability to those numbers as we’ve been commenting the last few days.”

The Premier this morning confirmed that Victorian schools will open for Term 2 next Wednesday, however, he has urged students to learn from home if possible.

“School is going to look very different in Term 2” he said.

“If you can learn from home, you must learn from home.

“We’ve got about a million students enrolled in government and non-government schools.

“We cannot have a million students moving around the Victorian community every day.

“All that will do is spread the virus and undermine the really significant progress that we’ve made.”

Andrews said there will be significant changes to Year 12’s VCE studies, however, the Victorian government plans for all assessments and exams to be completed this year.

“We’re not about Years 13 or people repeating,” he said.

“We think that we can get this done.”

Victorian Education Minister James Merlino said the government will work with families to ensure all students have the capacity to learn from home.

“We’re going to make sure that every child, every student, gets the support that they need,” he said.

“And that will be in the technology space - we’ve got around 4000 SIM cards, a thousand dongles, we’re working with internet providers...

“Every child that needs a laptop or a tablet will receive one. Every child.”
