Premier Daniel Andrews said 2700 tests were completed over the past 24 hours, with only one test coming back positive.

Thirty-two people are in hospital, with 13 patients in intensive care.

“That, I think, gives you a really clear indication that this strategy is working,” the Premier said.

“We’re seeing some stability, significant stability to these numbers and that is the product of some tough rules and the fact that the vast majority of Victorians are following those rules and I thank them, each and every one of them, for the part they’re playing in protecting our health system and saving lives.”

Victoria Police also issued 67 fines yesterday after 540 spot checks were carried out.

Andrews said Victorians should plan to follow restrictions imposed to contain the virus for the next four weeks.

“We are a day closer to the other side of this virus, a day closer to potentially lifting these rules,” he said.

“The last thing Victoria will agree to is anything that will jeopardise the progress we have made.”

Fourteen people have died in the state from the virus.
