Parks Victoria is closing the popular attractions from today until June 22.
The 16-day closure is due to unprecedented crowds that are hindering social distancing measures at both sites.
Crowds flocked to the sites last weekend and Victoria Police shut the 1000 Steps on Sunday after authorities struggled to control the influx of visitors.
While most parks across Victoria are now open, some closures are still in effect.
The following attractions remain closed:
- 12 Apostles, Port Campbell National Park
- Buchan Caves Reserve
- Lower Glenelg National Park - Princess Margaret Rose Cave
- Point Nepean National Park
- St Kilda Pier penguin viewing platform
- State Coal Mine underground tours.
- Wilsons Promontory National Park light station.
Parks Victoria also urged long weekend day-trippers to observe social distancing measures (maintain 1.5 metres from others), not gather in groups larger than 20, avoid regularly busy parks and sites, bring hand sanitiser and to be prepared for cold weather (and snow if relevant).
With around 3000 parks across Victoria, authorities are urging people to visit some of the less popular sites in the name of public safety.
It comes as Victoria recorded three new cases of coronavirus overnight, taking the state’s total to 1681.
