Italy’s men’s volleyball team was received by President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinal Palace in Rome on Monday, after being crowned world champions with Sunday’s 3-1 win over outgoing champs Poland.

The Azzurri came back strong, after losing the first set of the world championship final and went on to triumph with a dominant display.

This is Italy’s fourth title and their first in 24 years.

Premier Mario Draghi also met with the triumphant team at Palazzo Chigi.

“Team spirit and unity in purpose always pay off, and not only in sports.”

Said Draghi, concluding his greeting to the World Champions.

“You are an example of what young Italians are capable of. Italian volleyball, after the disappointment of the Olympics, has owned the defeats and renewed itself, as only great traditions know how to do.”
