Sassuolo took the lead in the 13th minute when Kristian Thorstvedt received the ball from Bologna keeper Lukasz Skorupski, whose poor pass went straight to him, and rifled it into the back of the net.

The home side equalised in the 24th thanks to an own goal by Mattia Viti, who tried to block a volley but sent the ball goalward with his back.

Ten minutes later, potential Socceroo Christian Volpato put the visitors back in front when he cut in from the right and curled the ball into the far post with his left foot.

Giovanni Fabbian made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute with a header into the far post.

Lewis Ferguson put Bologna ahead in the 83rd with a hard shot into the bottom-right corner from inside the box.

Three minutes later, Alexis Saelemaekers sealed the points when he took on a man in the box before slotting the ball low past Andrea Consigli.

Bologna end the round in fifth, three points behind Atalanta in fourth.

Sassuolo are 15th, just one point above the relegation zone.
