“A gentleman in his 80s at Royal Perth Hospital has succumbed to COVID-19,” West Australian Health Minister Roger Cook said.
“All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, on this very sad occasion.”
There are now a total of 460 cases of coronavirus across Western Australia, after seven additional cases were confirmed overnight.
All of the new cases are associated with cruise ship passengers or overseas travel, Cook said.
There are currently 58 coronavirus patients in hospital, including 18 in intensive care.
Meanwhile, the West Australian government has secured $5.5 million of personal protective equipment, ensuring continuity of supply for at least two more months.
Premier Mark McGowan announced the new supplies had arrived on Saturday and were a “welcome relief for people working in hospitals and the health system”.
McGowan also said the new hard border closure had been “implemented very smoothly” and that police were now in place at the airport and land entries to Western Australia to ensure the new arrangement was operating properly after it came into effect this morning.
