“I met with @Pontifex and thanked His Holiness for his prayers for peace in Ukraine, his spiritual closeness to our people, and humanitarian aid for Ukrainians,” Zelensky said on X.
“I informed the Pope about the consequences of Russian aggression, its air terror, and the difficult energy situation.
“We discussed the Peace Formula, the Holy See’s role in establishing a just and lasting peace, and expectations for the Global Peace Summit.
“I thanked the Holy See for its participation in the Summit and highlighted its efforts aimed at bringing peace closer, particularly returning Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.”
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden praised Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for Italy’s continued support for Ukraine.
“[Italy is] continuing to defend Kyiv from Russia’s brutal war of aggression”, the White House said after the bilateral meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the G7.
Meloni and Biden, it added, hailed the G7 leaders’ unanimous commitment to provide USD $50 billion in further financial support to Ukraine using profits from Russia’s frozen assets.
