‘Back to the Mould’: An exhibition by Matteo Volpi

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: Contemporary artists have explored natural processes of deterioration and transformation in many compelling ways. ‘Back to the Mould’ is a series of slides which suffered the onslaught of moulds, a biological remix. I hold a PhD in High Energy Particle Physics but I have been practicing photography from a young age, working with a variety of analogue cameras and film stock. Not satisfied with conventional photography, I started to explore with multimedia techniques. I am honoured to present to you these mould masterpieces, the result of a fascinating collision between physics, chemistry, biology and recycling art. An unconventional collection from CERN, the most famous laboratory in the world, will be also be shown for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere.
