'Jihad Selfie': The Role of the Artist in a Social Environment

Event by Editorial Team

Event presented by Bruce Gil, a young Italian filmmaker and sound designer. Soon after his arrival in Australia, one day by chance, Bruce read a job advertisement. They were looking for an editor and filmmaker for a documentary commissioned by The Institute for International Peace Building (Indonesia). Then, Bruce met Indonesian director and writer Noor Huda Ismail and was commissioned to take over the production aspect of the documentary 'Jihad Selfie' - the true story of a 17-year-old Indonesian boy who wanted to leave school and join ISIS because of its lure on social media. 'Jihad Selfie' was reviewed by The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian, The Washington Post, Daily Fact, Rolling Stone, The Straits Times, The Jakarta Post, Tempo Magazine, Kompas and The Conversation. After the screening there will be a Q&A session with Bruce Gil on production techniques.
