One of the groups involved in the protest movement made the announcement on Tuesday.

“On Friday, you will see a procession with tractors on Rome’s ring road,” said Salvatore Fais, leader of Agricultural Redemption, a group with tractors converging on a rallying point on Via Nomentana since Monday.

“There is a lot of cooperation from the prefecture and the police headquarters,” he added.

“Tomorrow morning, we have a new meeting at the police headquarters for details, but there is a good chance that our requests will be granted.

“We expect at least 500 tractors on the ring road,” said Fais.

Other groups of protesting farmers have been converging separately on the capital in recent days in readiness for a more general demonstration sometime next week.
