His request comes after he claimed 500,000 people demonstrated across Italy on Friday as part of a general strike proclaimed by CGIL and UIL against the government’s 2025 budget bill.
“The point is what does the government say now [to the 500,000 people who demonstrated on Friday],” Landini noted.
His remarks came on the sidelines of the assembly of the Green and Left Alliance (AVS) in Chianciano, Tuscany.
“There must be an answer,” he continued.
“As far as we are concerned, it is necessary to increase healthcare spending and act on taxation to generate the resources necessary for these investments,” said Landini.
“We are asking the cabinet in an explicit way to summon another meeting on the budget law, and we are asking entrepreneurs to open negotiations on the renewal of contracts,” said Landini.
CGIL called the strike on Friday together with the third biggest and former socialist union, UIL.
The third of the ‘Big Three’ confederations, the former Christian Democrat CSIL, did not participate.
Over 70 per cent of workers in the public and private sectors participated in the strike, according to CGIL and UIL.
The mobilisation was called to increase salaries and pensions and finance healthcare, education, public services and investments in industrial policies.
