The positions are open to people who are actively engaged in and committed to cultural diversity, and enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds.
The youth position is open to those aged between 18 and 24.
The term of appointment is three years.
In NSW, we come from 307 ancestries, practice 146 religions and speak more than 215 languages.
NSW is also home to 33.6 per cent of Australia’s overseas-born population, with 27.6 per cent of the state’s constituents born overseas, and 49,476 people from NSW born in Italy, at the 2016 census.
The purpose of Multicultural NSW is to build and maintain a cohesive and harmonious multicultural society that enriches the lives of all the people of NSW.
Their work is underpinned by the Multicultural NSW Act 2000, which establishes Multicultural NSW as the lead NSW government agency for promoting and monitoring the multicultural principles set out in the Act.
The Advisory Board draws on the cultural diversity, skills and expertise of its members to represent the community and provide advice to NSW Government.
Advisory Board Members must be engaged in and committed to cultural diversity, as well as have expertise in one or more of these areas:
- Emerging communities/new arrivals
- Sport and the arts
- Health, aged care and disability
- Education and Research
- Business and Corporate Networks
- Community leadership and languages
- Women
- NGOs
- Finance
- Policy
