A group of volunteers organised a film screening and set up a table with cakes and sweets for attendees, while the Toscana Social Club kindly made its hall available for the occasion.

The event, named in memory of Belli—who served as president of both the Centro Assisi and the Toscana Social Club—attracted more than 100 people.

A total of $2500 was raised, which will be used to pay for the subscription to Il Globo TV, allowing residents of the Centro Assisi to watch television programs in their own language directly from their apartments.

On November 6, the event organiser, Lilian Antonelli, handed the funds to Centro Assisi president Don Smarrelli and CEO Peter Birkett.

“It’s important to give Centro Assisi residents the opportunity to watch television in their own language,” said Antonelli as she presented the cheque.

She also offered heartfelt thanks to the volunteers and to the Toscana Club for providing the venue.

“At Centro Assisi we try to make the environment feel as much like home as possible—with Italian meals, activities and Mass celebrated in Italian,” shared Smarrelli.

“Having television in their own language, inside their apartments, is another step towards making their stay here as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.”
