The afternoon opened with the Italian and Australian national anthems, followed by a minute’s silence in memory of members who passed away during 2025.

It was a moving and meaningful moment, symbolically linking past and present in the spirit of remembrance, belonging and gratitude.

President Divo Cipriani then extended a warm welcome to those in attendance, thanking the Club Marconi committee for its ongoing support and the association’s board for its dedication in organising an event carefully planned in every detail.

In his address, he highlighted the strong spirit of collaboration and friendship that defines the association, which this year celebrates the significant milestone of 25 years of activity.

Providing lively entertainment throughout the afternoon was versatile musician Michele Riviera, whose engaging repertoire of traditional and contemporary songs created a festive and family atmosphere.

A welcome surprise was the participation of Club Marconi director Angelo Ruisi, who performed several songs, earning warm applause and adding to the special spirit of the day.

Representing the Bossley Park club were president Morris Licata and director Antonio Paragalli.

In his remarks, president Licata expressed admiration and appreciation for the Abruzzesi Association, congratulating it on its milestone.

With his customary sense of humour, he described the association as his “favourite”, prompting smiles and applause from the audience.

Among other guests were Beniamino Sonego, president of Club Italia; Gianni Carelli, president of the Puglia Association, accompanied by Mrs Giulia, president of the association’s women’s committee; and Pina Kvo, coordinator of the Abruzzo Choir and former president of the Abruzzesi Association for seven years.

There was also a moment dedicated to solidarity, with the drawing of a rich raffle featuring numerous prizes, including four tickets—donated by president Licata—to the Elvis The Impersonators concert scheduled for April at Club Marconi.

As per tradition, proceeds will be donated to the Dementia Australia Research Foundation, reaffirming the association’s concrete commitment to causes of significant social importance.

The day concluded with music, dancing and animated conversation in a spirit of genuine conviviality that once again highlighted the strength and vitality of the Abruzzese community in Sydney—united in preserving its roots and looking to the future with enthusiasm.
