Italy’s self-regulating ad body IAP has ordered a halt to the broadcast of the Amica Chips commercial, in which a crisp is substituted for the host during a religious service.

The decisions comes after it ended up in the crosshairs of viewers association AIART and several religious viewers.

The Control Committee of the Istituto di Autodisciplina Pubblicitaria (IAP) “has ordered the parties involved to desist from broadcasting this campaign,” it said in a statement.

“[We consider the ad] to be in conflict with Article 10 - Moral, civil, religious convictions and dignity of the person - of the Code of Self-Discipline of Commercial Communication.

“According to [Article 10]: ‘Commercial communication must not offend moral, civil and religious convictions.’”
