The extraordinary exhibition will offer guests an emotional journey traversing the history of the Italian community, highlighting weddings and baptisms celebrated by a much-loved icon, Father Atanasio Gonelli.

This will be a unique spectacle, studded with memorable and significant moments that have shaped the life of the community.

On display will be more than 150 panels of weddings and baptisms celebrated by Father Atanasio during his 61 years of ministry.

The exhibition will be an unmissable opportunity to relive the successes, challenges, sacrifices and joys of a community. Each image tells a story, a precious fragment of the past.

Photos of baptisms celebrated by Father Atanasio reveal his constant presence at pivotal moments in the lives of community members. He was always there with words of comfort, a smile, or a friendly conversation.

Also on display will be personal diaries handwritten by Father Atanasio himself. The diaries were written between 1942-1946 and will accompany other recently recovered historical documents, each of which add depth and context to his impact on the community.

The commemorative exhibition marks the centenary of Father Atanasio Gonelli’s birth, and will take place within the charming gardens and hall of St Fiacre Church.

Visitors will be welcomed on Saturday, November 18 at 1pm for the opening ceremony.

The event will be attended by distinguished guests, including the aforementioned Consul General of Italy in Sydney and the Mayor of Santa Caterina dello Ionio (Catanzaro) Francesco Severino, along with Father John Cooper.

The exhibition will remain open until Sunday, November 19 from 10am to 6pm with free admission.

There will be an opportunity, should you recognise yourself in the photos on display, to request a complimentary copy to keep.
