“We will have to think of a legal solution for the children born so far”, said Roccella referring to surrogacy.
Her comments came during the taping of left-wing journalist Peter Gomez's La Confessione show, to be broadcast on Friday June 23.
“We will have to think about a sort of amnesty,” she explained.
“[Because] there will be the new law for the prosecution of surrogacy, even for those who do it abroad, since in Italy it is already forbidden fortunately.
“I think it is useful to introduce a legal solution that is not a way of circumventing the laws for children born here.”
The government has filed a bill making surrogacy a “universal crime”, while saying that it will not be retroactive.
