Unfortunately, it’s not all that uncommon.
However, the Italian island of Elba will now refund tourists if their dream holiday is washed away by the rain.
Elba Island is situated off the coast of Tuscany, and a popular tourist destination, with its beautiful Mediterranean beaches and rich history: it’s famous for being the place where French Emperor Napoleon was exiled toward the end of his life.
The island is about to become even more popular, with the recent launch of its new ‘Elba No Rain’ initiative.
For the entire month of May, visitors will be refunded for their accommodation if there are more than two hours of rain during the day.
According to the island’s tourism site, “the overnight stay is free for days when there is rainfall for more than two hours between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm”.
To take advantage of the deal, guests must be staying at one of an approved list of local hotels and guesthouses that are participating in the program.
The aim of the initiative is to encourage tourists to brave the weather and see that the island has much more to offer than just its picturesque beaches.
The island’s rain refunds will stop at the end of May and begin again from September 15 through to the end of October.
They will start anew in May 2020.
