The act took place after the defacement of four Jewish deportee stumbling stones earlier this week.
DIGOS security police are investigating and will view CCTV footage of the area.
Interior Matteo Piantedosi said Thursday that he was worried about rising anti-Semitism after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas.
The minister spoke of a “resurgence of anti-Semitism, which we are monitoring, controlling and which worries us” during a visit to Trieste.
He said Hamas itself presented a possible threat after the head of its Council for International Relations in Gaza, Basem Naim, said Italy was “part of the aggression against us”.
But he also said there was a danger of “lone wolves”.
“We are being very attentive,” he added.
