“I may be a little biased, coming from a proud Italian background, but from the first influx of Italian migrants this neighbourhood was for many others in our community their introduction to the rich culture, cooking and hospitality that Italy is famous for.
“The official renaming of the precinct is a fitting tribute to the Italian migrants who contributed so much to our local economy and way of life.”
Albanese had already given the project his blessing last year when, during the Italian Festa, he took to the stage to applaud Mayor of Inner West Council Darcy Byrne’s announcement that within a year, the festival would no longer be that of Norton Street but of Little Italy.
