Pisa started brightly and almost scored from a corner, but Eric Botteghin’s header went just wide.

Pisa’s Pietro Beruatto attempted a curling shot with the outside of his foot but it was well saved by Leali.

Federico Dionisi almost caught Nicolas off guard with a long-range header, but the Pisa keeper got a hand to it.

The game would need to wait until the 53rd minute to see a goal. Pedro Mendes didn’t know much about it but was luckily hit by the ball from Fabrizio Caligara’s freekick that should have been easily dealt with by Pisa.

Twenty minutes later and Ascoli would double their lead thanks to Davide Marsura being the first to react to Cedric Gondo’s blocked shot.

Marsura just had to get the rebound on target and he did, despite a desperate Nicolas trying to get across to cover.

Eight minutes from time and Pisa would have their hopes restored when Gaetano Masucci threw himself feet-first at Ettore Gliozzi’s flick-on, sending the ball past Leali.

It was to remain Ascoli’s night however as the home are now behind Reggina only on head-to-head, with the teams to face each other later this month.
