Chelsea, who went ahead through Joao Pedro’s close-range lunging effort, dropped out of the top eight automatic qualifying spots with their second loss.

Six minutes after the break, Atalanta thought they had equalised through Ademola Lookman, but he was judged to be offside.

Three minutes later, De Ketelaere’s looping cross was met with a header by Gianluca Scamacca to level the scores.

In the 83rd minute, De Ketelaere drove into the box and scored the winner with a shot into the near post that Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez got a hand to, but couldn’t keep out.

It was a fourth win for Atalanta, who have momentarily climbed to third and are the highest-placed Italian team.
