Nineteen-year-old forward Chemsdine Talbi scored twice as the visitors gave Gian Piero Gasperini’s team a lesson in efficiency.

Atalanta dominated the match with 65 per cent possession and 19 shots on goal to the visitors’ seven.

Brugge took the lead in under three minutes when Chemsdine Talbi finished off a counterattack with a well-placed shot low into the far post from 15 yards.

Atalanta thought they had equalised in the 17th minute, but Mateo Retegui was ruled offside.

Talbi had his brace in the 27th minute with a finish into an empty net after Atalanta keeper Marco Carnesecchi parried straight into his path.

Ferran Jutgla made it 3-0 just before the break with a rocket from distance after Brugge were able to survive sustained pressure from the home side and counter again.

Atalanta hero Ademola Lookman got one back for the Italian side in the first minute of the second half when he finished Davide Zappacosta’s square pass.

Lookman had the opportunity to make things interesting when Atalanta were awarded a penalty for a foul on Juan Cuadrado. The resulting spot kick, which had power but was too central, was saved by former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Rafael Toloi was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute for violent conduct against Maxime De Cuyper.

Atalanta can now focus on the league, where they currently sit third.
