Atalanta dominated possession with 60 per cent as both sides had ten shots on goal—although Verona created slightly better chances according to the expected goals.
The home side started the much brighter and were unlucky not to be 2-0 up thanks to a fine save from Lorenzo Montipò and a last-ditch sliding block by Jean Akpa.
The only goal of the match came eight minutes before the break as Davide Zappacosta’s low shot from distance somehow got through a crowded box unimpeded, finding its way into the far post—despite Montipò getting a hand to it.
