Australian Emma Summerton was tasked with the honour of photographing next year's Pirelli calendar, stating that the latest edition of the iconic work shows that every woman has a story to tell, and can thus inspire other women.

“Today they call them activists, but there have always been Muses, over the centuries," said Summerton of the 2023 calendar, entitled ‘Love Letters to the Muse’.

The 28 featured shots of 14 models create a bridge between dreams and reality, in a work undoubtedly influenced by contemporary feminism and the #MeToo movement. The images convey women’s resilience, intermingled with beauty, strength, intrigue and talent.

Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Ashley Graham, Emily Ratajkowski and Cara Delevinge are among the star studded cast of models Summerton and Pirelli called upon for the realisation of the project.

Each of the models featured was assigned a relevant moniker, speaking to their own diverse talent and skillset.

Emily Ratajkowski, for example is portrayed as “The Writer”, a celebration of her success as a bestselling author following the publication of her debut book My Body last year.

The highly anticipated calendar was unveiled on Wednesday at the Pirelli Hangar Bicocca in Milan, with models Guinevere Van Seenus, Lauren Wasser, Precious Lee and Ashley Graham strutting down a red carpet, this time turned green, to reflect the work's environmental consciousness.
