“FFA has taken a very tough and difficult decision to postpone the final rounds of the ... A-League,” Football Federation Australia CEO James Johnson told reporters at a press conference in Sydney on Tuesday.

“The postponement is effective immediately.

“This is unanimous decision of the FFA board and each of the ... A-League clubs.

“The FFA will review this situation in the coming weeks and a further status assessment is now scheduled for April 22.”

Clubs and the governing body will have to act accordingly, with stand-down periods certain for some staff and redundancies possible for others, but there will have to be enough hands on deck for football to be able to be played again once the coronavirus pandemic allows that to happen.

Australia has now suspended all of its major sporting codes, with the AFL, NRL and Super Rugby all calling off their seasons in recent days.
