Avondale FC starting XI: Bennett (GK), Claridge, Genitsaris (C), Lamaj, Goad, Kellond-Knight, Galluccio, Candia, Nishihara, Steiner, Okino
Goals: Okino 19’ 56’, Kellond-Knight 28’, Steiner 36’ 78’ 81’, Kenny 86’
We started brightly, creating a flurry of early chances only to be denied time and again by Geelong’s goalkeeper, Liliana Berg, who was in inspired form. But persistence paid off when Kurea Okino continued her rich vein of scoring, latching onto a low-driven cross and finishing with power and precision to open the account.
That goal opened the floodgates. From then on, it was all Avondale. Our football was fluid and expressive. Intricate passing combinations and intelligent movement overwhelmed the visitors. The finishing matched the build-up as clinical strikes added gloss to the performance.
Elise Kellond-Knight and Simeone Kenny both delivered technically brilliant volleys, while Addison Steiner produced a striking masterclass, netting yet another hat-trick and taking her season tally to a staggering 32 goals, still with seven games to play.
The 7-0 victory was another statement performance from a side that continues to entertain and dominate. If you haven’t witnessed this brand of football in person, now’s the time. Join us at Avenger Park on Sunday, July 20, as we take on Monash University.
But first, our focus turns to a pivotal clash with Calder United this Friday at Keilor Park Reserve, where we’ll look to solidify our position while Calder aim to reclaim third spot.
