Avondale FC have a geographic rivalry with Melbourne Knights, and last year could only manage a 1-1 draw in the away fixture.

A strong start to the game was a must for Avondale, and it was Kur Kur who continued his goal scoring form with a goal in the 19th minute.

Blake Carpenter doubled the advantage with a expertly taken free kick in the 26th minute, and the score remained 2-0 at half time.

Set pieces continued to be a method for goals, as Ayden Brice scored a header from a corner to make it 3-0 in the 51st minute.

That score line would only last eight minutes as Melbourne Knights scored in the 59th minute to make it 3-1.

The game turned in the 80th minute when Carpenter was sent off for a foul in the box, and Melbourne Knights scored the resulting penalty to make it 3-2.

The home team pushed for an equaliser, and they got what they were after in the 93rd minute, making it 3-3.

Avondale FC don’t have time to dwell on the result as focus now shifts to Moreland City away on Friday, March 1 at 8:30 p.m.

Moreland City have not had a good start to the year, losing all three of their opening games, so will be desperate for a result.
