Spirit head into this game off the back of a 1-1 draw in Melbourne against Preston Lions last weekend, making this match their second in a row against a Championship foundation club.
Avondale coach Jonatan Germano says his side has done their research on the NSW NPL Premiers, but because last week’s opposition analysis didn’t amount to much, the focus at training has centred on themselves.
“We’ve been studying a little bit about them, but we need to worry about us more than them,” he said.
“Because this past week, we looked into Canberra [Croatia], then when they came over here [they used] different tactics and a different set up, so we’ll encourage our players and our staff to worry about us and not worry about them too much.”
This match will be Avondale’s first of three away games. Germano acknowledges the challenging nature of the draw but says it doesn’t change the way his side will approach these fixtures.
“It is challenging,” he said, “We have to go and travel, we have to go play in Preston, we have to go and travel again.
“But at the end of the day we go for the three points in every single game, and we need to be up to that challenge.”
