The honour was bestowed by Margaret Beazley, Governor of NSW, in the presence of officials and family members. Pellegrino received the medal in the General Division for her tireless service to the Italian community in the south-west area of Sydney.
For years, Pellegrino has been a key figure in countless cultural, social and support initiatives, helping to preserve and promote Italian heritage in the region, while fostering integration and intergenerational dialogue.
In addition to Pellegrino’s family, John Gulotta was also present. He was elected to the Order of Australia New South Wales committee in 2018.
Gulotta currently serves as the organisation’s vice president and is also the metropolitan coordinator and public relations officer. He actively participates in the organisation and promotion of official events.
The award recognised Giovanna Pellegrino’s extraordinary commitment and the profound impact she has had on the lives of many.
The ceremony took place in an atmosphere of deep emotion and pride, celebrating an example of civic dedication and love for the community.
