Becciu is on trial in relation to alleged graft and negligence in managing the vast portfolio.

He is accused of mismanaging a property portfolio including a luxury flat on London’s Sloan Avenue.

The Vatican’s promoter of justice Alessandro Diddi asked for the sentence against Becciu.

In all, Diddi requested a total of 73 years against the 10 defendants.

On Monday, Diddi wound up his arguments by saying that Becciu, the 75-year-old Sardinian who previously worked within the Secretariat of State, “has always tried to delegitimise us” instead of cooperating with prosecutors.
