The deputy prime minister and foreign minister told reporters on Thursday that the health of the 86-year-old three-time ex-prime minister and media mogul, who is set to leave Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital shortly, is improving daily.
“He’s in shape, he’s going through his convalescence: I spoke with him an hour ago, he’s preparing his speech which will be Saturday,” Tajani said.
“Berlusconi is still a protagonist of Italian politics who is looking to the future.”
The media billionaire’s condition is stable and the clinical picture is “comforting” Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital said in an update on Berlusconi’s condition on Wednesday.
The statement made no mention of the possibility of Berlusconi being discharged, after it was reported on Tuesday that he would leave hospital within 48 hours.
The 86-year-old was admitted to San Raffaele on April 5 to treat a lung infection that sprang up as part of a previously undisclosed chronic leukemia he has been suffering from for the last two years.
Berlusconi’s condition has been steadily improving over the last two weeks.
The centre-right politician, who had a heart operation in 2016 and who has been in and out of hospital with COVID and long COVID over the last two years, has said he is heartened by all the messages of support and affection he has received over the last month.
