The 64-year-old tenor and international superstar from the province of Pisa will be the only Italian performer on the night, although earlier this year it was announced that the acclaimed English-Italian conductor and pianist Sir Antonio Pappano is to conduct the orchestra at the king's coronation ceremony on May 6.

"I have had the great honour of singing for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on several occasions" - Bocelli said in a statement.

"It is now another great honour to be invited to perform at the Coronation Concert of King Charles III."

Bocelli sang at Charles' late mother Queen Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee.

After singing for several American presidents, including George W Bush, Obama, and Biden, three popes, at the Olympic opening ceremony and the football World Cup, he will this time duet with longtime friend and baritone, Welshman Sir Bryn Terfel.

Other performers for the concert will include Take That, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.

Bocelli is scheduled to perform a concert at the Baths of Caracalla on June 10 as part of the summer opera program organised by Rome's opera house.
