The text provides, among other things, for a sovereign fund to support strategic supply chains, the ‘Made in Italy’ high school, and measures to combat counterfeiting and promote Italian products.

The cabinet approved the ‘Made in Italy’ bill and a sovereign fund is created with an initial endowment of €1 billion to promote strategic supply chains, the Ministry for Business and Made in Italy said.

The ministry explained that the measure “contains organic provisions to enhance and promote the production of excellence, historical and artistic beauty and national cultural roots as factors to be preserved and passed on for the growth of the country’s economy”.

The new version of the proposed law introduces a technical committee tasked with “carrying out investigations, (providing) technical insights and drafting guidelines” to identify pasta quality in support of correct product labeling and advertising.

Business and Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso described the bill as a “strategic measure”.

The law “will establish the Italian sovereign fund with a significant initial endowment” and additional investments to become the “channel through which investments in the strategic Made in Italy supply chains can be sourced”, he said at the initiative ‘Building the Italy of tomorrow: the road to biotech‘ organised by Federchimica Assobiotec and broadcast on corriere.it.

Initially touted by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Urso in April, the ‘Made in Italy’ high school aims to “promote knowledge, skills and competencies related to Made in Italy, with a view to aligning labour supply and demand” according to a preliminary draft of the bill.

It should be launched in the 2024/2025 academic year.

The bill also establishes the ‘National Made in Italy Day’ on April 15 to “celebrate Italian creativity and excellence”.

On that day, which will not be a national holiday, the State, regions, provinces, metropolitan cities and municipalities will be encouraged to promote “initiatives for the promotion of creativity and the defense and enhancement of Made in Italy”, according to the bill.
