Cagliari have done their survival hopes a favour with a 1-0 win away to Empoli.

The home side had 56 per cent of the ball and created seven chances to Cagliari’s six.

After a goalless first half, Empoli thought they had taken the lead in the 62nd minute when Liberato Cacace found the back of the net, but it was chalked off for offside.

Seven minutes later, Cagliari scored a goal that would count.

Jakub Jankto side-footed home from inside the box after Empoli goalkeeper Elia Caprile parried an earlier shot straight to him.

Claudio Ranieri’s team remains in the relegation zone but are still on equal points with 17th-placed Verona, who also won.
