In their debut under new coach Francesco Calzona, Napoli had appeared on course for a first win in four matches after Victor Osimhen was left completely unmarked to head in a cross in the 66th minute.
In the sixth minute of added time, Cagliari sent a Hail Mary long ball into the box that should have been easily dealt with by Napoli’s defence, however Luvumbo brought it down and fired home on the turn to break Neapolitan hearts.
In another blow for the champions, star man Osimhen limped off six minutes from time seemingly injured.
The prolific forward had only just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, where he helped Nigeria reach the final.
