Fiorentina starting XI (4-2-3-1): Terracciano, Kayode, Milenkovic, Martinez Quarta, Parisi, Arthur (subbed for Kouame), Duncan (subbed for Mandragora), Nico Gonzalez, Bonaventura, Brekalo (subbed for Sottil), Nzola (subbed for Beltran)

Bench: Martinelli, Christensen, Dalle Mura, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Barak, Ikonè, Infantino

EMPOLI (4-3-3): Berisha, Ebuehi, Walukiewicz, Luperto, Cacace (subbed for Bastoni), Marin (subbed for Fazzini), Grassi, Maleh, Cambiaghi (subbed for Baldanzi), Caputo (subbed for Destro), Cancellieri (subbed for Gyasi)

Bench: Perisan, Caprile, Guarino, Bereszynski, Ranocchia, Maldini

Goals: Caputo 21’, Gyasi 81’

Caputo converted a low cross from the right after 21 minutes and Emmanuel Gyasi added a second from another inviting centre with nine minutes remaining to wrap up all three points for the visitors.

It was Fiorentina’s first defeat since September 3 and a big setback for a team that started the day level on points with Napoli in fourth place.

Victory would have given the Tuscan club their best league start since three points were introduced for a win in 1994.

Fiorentina dominated possession but were unable to make a breakthrough against an obdurate Empoli, for whom a second win of the season moved them out of the relegation zone and up to 17th.
