President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference and Archbishop of Bologna Cardinal Matteo Zuppi will be in Beijing from September 13 to 15 in a new leg of his mission as papal envoy for peace in Ukraine, the Vatican press office said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The visit is a further step in the mission requested by the pope to support humanitarian initiatives and the search for paths that might lead to a just peace”, the statement said.
Zuppi is due to leave for China from Berlin on Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by a representative of the Secretariat of State.
It will be his fourth visit as papal envoy after trips to Kyiv and Moscow in June and to Washington DC in July.
