The drive began in the fresh early hours, proceeding from Heathcote Railway Station carpark, through Heathcote National Park, on to the Old Princes Highway, across Mt Kembla, Bulli and then on to “the great back-roads of Marshall Mount, Albion Park and Jamberoo”, to finish at the Robertson Inn.

“It was great,” AROCA NSW president Eddy Failla said.

“We had lunch on the deck at the Robertson Inn, overlooking the carpark with all the Alfa Romeo cars below.”

A beautiful sight.

Failla said there are around 800 members in the NSW branch of the club.

When asked what makes Alfa so special, Failla mentioned the heritage of the brand, and the pride in inheriting the Alfa appreciation through his Italian lineage.

Alfa Romeos are beloved around the world for their strong and distinctive character.

Drivers appreciate the look and feel of the classic Italian design.

But the brand also has a reputation for being unreliable, with breakdowns said to occur more regularly than in other car brands.

Jeremy Clarkson from BBC show Top Gear famously said: “Alfa builds a car to be as good as a car can be, but briefly.”

Failla emphasised that the car is not unreliable but that, as with any well-engineered machine, it requires TLC.

“Because it is a precise machine, it requires maintenance,” he said.

“If it is maintained, it will not give you problems.”

AROCA NSW includes models from the very latest Giulia to the first Giulia ever made.

“They’re cars with passion and soul,” Failla said.

“It’s more than transport for us.”
