The home side had 59 per cent of the ball and created 11 chances to Ternana’s large sum of 21.

Catanzaro went ahead in the 10th minute when Tommaso Biasci got on the end of a deflected save from Ternana keeper Antony Iannarilli to finish from close range.

Ternana equalised just before half time when Antonio Raimondo slid in to finish Valerio Mantovani’s ball into the box.

The visitors were close to picking up their first point of the season but Catanzaro were awarded a penalty in dying stages for a foul on Luca D’Andrea.

Jari Vandeputte stepped up in the 89th minute and made no mistake from the spot.

Cantenzaro are on four points from six.
