The theme for this year is Sicilian gastronomy.
The Consulate of Italy in Brisbane invites all Italian restaurants, cafes and bakeries in Queensland and the Northern Territory to participate.
Businesses have the possibility to offer a special dish on their menu, inspired by Sicilian cuisine, during the above mentioned week, or organise Italian cuisine classes or any other event that may promote the excellence of Italian gastronomy.
For the first time, the event is supported by the Committee for Italians Abroad (Com.It.Es Qld & NT).
Mariangela Stagnitti, president of Com.It.Es QLD & NT, said that part of the committee’s duty is to aid newly arrived Italians in finding work, which is often in restaurants or local businesses.
She said she wanted to thank those restaurants and businesses for their continual support of newly arrived Italians.
Giving them the opportunity to participate in the Settimana della Cucina Italiana Nel Mondo is one special way of thanking them.
Close to 70 restaurants have already expressed interest, with one pasticceria planning a week of Sicilian granita and brioche, and another restaurant proposing a cooking class of eggplant parmigiana.
Businesses willing to take part in the initiative must submit their expression of interest by November 10, detailing which activity they wish to organise.
Applications may be submitted through the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane’s Facebook page.
